My passion for crochet was reignited. I made a blanket, sweater and hat set times 2 as both of my sister in laws were due to have little girls just weeks apart. I may not have started crocheting again had it not been for them. There were a lot of nights on the phone with my aunt as I had only crocheted squares....Needless to say after several months the girls looked adorable in their sweater sets and blankets.
I found that trying to learn how to crochet other shapes was actually kinda fun, so I started going to the library and checking out books on crochet. I became enthralled with thread crochet and made several dollies and table runners that my mom still proudly displays.

I started to get people asking if I made other things. While it started off really slow, eventually I was getting quite a few people interested in my items. I started wondering if it was something worth selling..... insert light bulb....at this point it was turned on though because I couldn't find the light switch. That was until I saw a friends post on Facebook about Etsy. After several long, probably annoying, messages I set up my very own Etsy shop. I began purchasing patterns and crocheting like a mad woman. The room was suddenly bright and the switch was on. I opened my shop on January 6th 2012. It hasn't taken off as well as I hoped but I know that it is a process. I have had several orders, 3 to Australia, which was surprising to me that I would reach that far, but the majority of my orders still come from friends, family and coworkers.
I hope that one day my passion can become my entire source of income, until that day though I will continue to try to reach potential buyers through Etsy, Facebook, Twitter, and my blog. So feel free to share this blog post with your friends, and hope on over to my Etsy shop, Facebook page or follow me on Twitter @ MelIsCrafty.
Happy crafting, never stop following your dreams!
